Operation Keep ‘Em Warm & Fed
Operation Keep ‘Em Warm & Fed provides blankets, food, coffee and vitamins to our brothers and sisters struggling with poverty, homelessness and addiction issues in Tacoma’s inner city. They serve 90 to 125 people every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Operation Keep’ Em Warm & Fed provides opportunities to both those in need and those who don’t know how they can help.
Donations of cups, spoons, bowls, sandwiches, juice, pastries, health bars, vitamins, coffee, sugar, cream, utensils, socks and blankets are always needed.
Keep 'Em Warm & Fed has a range of opportunities to serve:
- Sandwich Makers: Groups or individuals willing to make sandwiches to be delivered to the rectory on Tuesdays and Thursdays for street distribution on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
- Short-order Cooks: To coordinate with Michael Krist-Sterbick the preparation of food items that are nutritious for street distribution to the homeless.
- Hospitality Provider: To work with Michael and other volunteers in the distribution of food and to offer kindness and fellowship to those out on the streets.
- Fundraiser: To seek resources and sponsors for the ministry.
The Sandwich Brigade is made up of teams who buy sandwich ingredients and make sandwiches for Operation Keep ‘Em Warm & Fed to distribute to our friends living on the streets. This is a once-a-month commitment and is a great project for families. Sandwich Makers purchase sandwich fixings and prepare individually-wrapped sandwiches to be delivered to the St. Leo Rectory on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. These sandwiches are then distributed on Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
