Faith Formation for adults
St. Leo offers a range of faith formation opportunities for adults.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Many parishioners who find meaning and joy at St. Leo Parish invite others to join us, no matter if or where they’ve been to church before. RCIA is the process through which adults who are not Catholic may inquire about the Catholic faith and, if desired, Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. RCIA invites participants to grow closer to God, wherever that process may lead. The group meets on Wednesday evenings.
Adult Bible Study
This Adult Bible Study led by Linda Lou Miller-Bever is an informal group that meets weekly on Sundays at 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM beginning in October upstairs in the Rectory Library; however, you are welcome to begin at any time of the year. Bring a Bible if you have one. This year participants are reflecting on An Introduction to a Feminist Interpretation of the Bible by Sr. Barbara E. Reid.
Faith Sharing Groups
We grow in faith simply by gathering with companions to share our prayers, our questions, and our reflections on the Scriptures. Small Christian communities meet in many neighborhoods and are facilitated by and include parishioners who wish to gather to reflect on the Scriptures and share faith together. The groups begin at Advent or Lent, and some continue year-round and are open to new members.
The Non-Violent Communication Support Team has formed and is looking at more ways to bring NVC into our parish life. Barbara Henderson, Kathy Hitchcock, Shannon Gilbert, and Kitty Custer would be glad to speak to anyone interested in Non-violent communication. Keep your eye out in the bulletin for opportunities to learn and practice non-violent communication.
Anam Cara-Men’s Spirituality Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the rectory library for prayer, faith sharing and a discussion of material they have read.
Sophia Women’s Spirituality
Sophia Women’s Spirituality group usually meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Dining Room for prayer and sharing faith.
St. Leo Reads
Our own parish book club meets the last Monday of the month at 6:30 PM and discusses two or three books each year.
Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life
The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) is a nine-month program based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola that meets monthly at St. Leo’s. With the assistance of spiritual directors from Roman Catholic and other Christian traditions, this “retreat” offers a gift of spiritual accompaniment, within a context of consistent personal prayer and a prayerful community. This retreat is best suited for those who have established a discipline of regular personal prayer, have experience of sharing their spiritual journey with one another, and who are called and committed to deepening personal faith and nurturing the seeds of a spirituality that transforms human society.
